I’ve seen an increasing number of Facebook posts on human trafficking in the US. Children are lured or snatched from their normal lives and plunged into a world most of us don’t want to believe exists. If they live long enough, they are sold like merchandise to the highest bidder. Most are turned into addicts, so they lose their will and ability to escape. Few will ever return to “normal” lives and will be forever lost in that world we don’t want to know about. It’s right to shine a light on this horror that thrives in the darkness of inattention. As bad as that evil is, it pales in comparison to another.
Another evil was thrust into the headlines, even though we knew it existed and enacted laws to stop it. Racism still exists in the US and it is right that it should be exposed and dealt with. We made great progress against this evil, but then it became a political football and was used to attack anyone that challenged their opinion. During a particularly brutal political battle, George Floyd was killed and one side fanned the flames for political gain. They took a tragedy that could have led to progress in race relations and ended up with stealing, killing and destruction that hurts everyone. Now the momentum has shifted from stopping that evil to stopping the evil that’s destroying our cities. Still there is a much greater evil than those.
Killing our unborn children has to be the ultimate evil. What can be worse than intentionally killing the most innocent and vulnerable among us? They couldn’t have done anything wrong and can’t be the guilty one. If the mother is a willing participant, it takes it to another level, but that isn’t the worst evil. Surely laws that allow the baby to die or be killed outside the womb push it to the top of the evil list? But sadly that isn’t the case.
They are all sin, but the worst evil is letting people die without telling them JESUS died to save them from their sin! But that is just a difference of religious beliefs, how can it be evil? The biggest reason is “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16 KJV). GOD knew we needed saving and it was so important that He sacrificed His Son. Note, it says if we believe in Him we have everlasting life, so not believing leads to everlasting death. The price of our sin was paid by JESUS, but if sinners never hear that message, or are taught not to believe it, they will spend an eternity suffering the consequences.
That is the worst evil and it’s happening on an unimaginable scale. 150,000 people die every day and few have accepted JESUS. How can we judge them and say so many are lost? JESUS said “broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in” and “strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it” (Mat 7:13-14 KJV). The consequences make it the greatest evil in misery, in quantity and in finality. That is why JESUS said “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned” (Mat 16:15-16 KJV). JESUS did His part and now we have to tell the world!
