No Power!

I woke one morning to complete darkness. Yes, the moon light shining through our bedroom window helped, but only a little. Maybe my wife had turned off the stairwell light we normally leave on, or the bulb had burned out? I made my way to the nearest light switch, only to discover we had no power. I looked out the window and felt some relief when I saw the neighborhood was dark and it wasn’t just our problem. I reached for the small flashlight I kept on the dresser and only to be reminded I had taken it when we went on vacation. I intended to buy more flashlights the last time this happened, but never got around to it. I knew I had flashlights and batteries somewhere, but I had to find them in the dark. I had removed the flashlight app from my cell-phone, to save my battery, but it still gave off a little light.

I found my flashlight and a battery powered candle that helped me get around our darkened house. I returned to bed and hoped the power would come back on, but eventually had to get up. Even without power, I was able to have some cereal and my wife’s Starbucks coffee. I really missed my hot coffee because it was almost freezing outside and we had no heat.

I could get by with minimal light, cold cereal and Starbucks coffee, but my internet was down! I normally get up early, to post my stories on my page and on a dozen or so other places on Facebook. I had a new story ready to go out, but had no way to post it. Yes I have a smart phone, but my cheap phone and my old-school brain weren’t powerful enough to do that.

If a lack of electrical power can have such a profound effect on me, think of what effect a lack of power can have on your spiritual life! If you have a form of godliness, but deny the power (2 Tim 3:5) you are like my home without electricity. You are left groping in darkness; you will be cold and won’t have the fire inside you need and your communication lines will be down. Sadly, you won’t be able to do much without the power you need from GOD.

While JESUS with them He showed them the power of prayer when He prayed and the loaves and fish were multiplied (Mark 6:41). He prayed for the sick and they were healed, blinded eyes were opened, demons were cast out and the dead came to life. He answered Satan with the power of the WORD (Mat 4:4-10). Most of all He showed them the power of obedience, even it meant His death on the cross. His obedience fulfilled the love of GOD who “so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16 KJV).

That power can only be activated in us when we repent of our sins and are washed by the cleansing power of the blood of JESUS. In addition He said, “ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth” (Acts 1:8 KJV). Receive your power, so you can shine the light of JESUS in a lost and dying world!
