During Bible times, a well-equipped soldier wore armor so he could protect himself and hopefully defeat his enemy. Armor alone didn’t guarantee a win, but it greatly improved his chances. Being trained and skilled to use his weapons would also improve his chances of a victory. Even highly trained and skilled soldiers with full armor needed a commander with a winning plan.
The spiritual war is much the same and you must put on your armor. “Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day” (Eph 6:13). The most important is “the helmet of salvation” and “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (Eph 6:17), because “Ye must be born again” (John 3:7) and the WORD is GOD (John 1:1) the Son (JESUS) and is the way of salvation (John 14:6). Without salvation, the other pieces of armor are useless to you.
You need the “the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked” (Eph 6:16) and those fiery darts will come because the enemy wants to kill you. When those attacks come, “Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness” (Eph 6:14) so you won’t be shaken by the lies of the enemy. The breastplate of righteousness will guard your heart. “And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace” (Eph 6:15) will keep you on the right path. Remember, you are in a battle and the thief is out to “to steal, and to kill, and to destroy” (John 10:10) you and he will attack you in any area that is not protected.
Why do I need all that armor? “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (Eph 6:12) and you can’t fight them on your own!
With your full set of armor, you will not only be able to defend against the attacks, but you will also be able to attack and defeat the enemy! You are equipped for victory!
If I have my armor on, what is the plan of attack? “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved” (John 3:16 – 17 KJV). Now your part is to “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned” (Mark 16:15-16).
