It’s the first of the month and my retirement pay is in the bank. The whole world must know that because my bills are due. As I go down the list and pay each one, I hope there will be enough for our allowance, but I know I must pay my debts first. I’m on a fixed income, which means it won’t increase. I can’t wait until the bills come due to decide I can’t pay them, because that would be too late. Not paying would hurt my credit and cost me even more.
With the price of everything increasing and my income remaining the same, I made some adjustments. When I saw my cable bill was becoming too expensive, I stopped it and began using the service included with my Amazon account. I did something similar with my cell phone service. I changed from an unlimited plan to a pay-as-you-go service that costs less. I get less service, but I also pay much less.
I did something else to help manage my expenses was create a budget. It’s a simple spreadsheet with recurring expenses listed, when they are due, how they are paid and approximately how much I will owe. In the past I forgot to pay bills and that made it harder to catch up and to get back on track. My budget helps me remember what I need to pay.
Knowing the importance of paying my debts, makes me wonder how our government will pay the massive debts we are accumulating. I know they have people who can make a budget and calculate income verses expenses. They keep raising our national debt limit and borrowing more money so it will become increasingly harder to pay what we owe! Why haven’t they cut back on expenses to reduce some of our debt load? Many of our leaders won’t live to see the debts they are incurring paid off. Maybe that is their plan?
Knowing the price of sin and the importance of settling that debt, I wonder how people expect to pay the massive debts they are accumulating. They continue in sin without any thought of how much it will cost them. Sadly, most don’t believe they owe anything, and that unbelief adds to their debt, while keeping them from doing anything about it! The Bible says, “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us” (1 John 1:8 KJV) and “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23 KJV). I hope they don’t wait until it’s too late!
GOD created a budget long ago and it tells us how to pay the debt off and the penalties we will incur if we don’t settle that debt before we die. But I’m a good person! GOD commanded “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect” (Mat 5:48 KJV), do you want to risk your eternity on meeting GOD’s standard yourself? JESUS said, “no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6 KJV). Why don’t you try His way?
What can I do to pay my debt? You can’t, but “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16 KJV). How much will it cost me? Nothing, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God” (Eph 2:8 KJV). Admit you failed, Believe in JESUS CHRIST as your Savior, and Confess your sins! Then your debt will be paid in full!
