I Love You More

When my grandchildren were young, I would tell them “I love you a hundred times” and they would answer back, “I love you a thousand times.” We would keep going back and forth like that until they raised the number to infinity, meaning I couldn’t go higher. Then I started saying “I love you more” meaning, no matter how much they loved me, my love for them was greater. Yes, that was a childish game we played, but my love for them is serious. No matter how much they thought they loved me, my love for them is determined by the price I’m willing to pay for them. I’m willing to sacrifice to meet their needs and would die to keep them safe if I had to.

That reminds me of someone who loves me more. I proclaim my love for Him with the greatest words I know, but no matter how much that is, He loves me more. In fact, He loves you as much as He does me. How do I know? It’s the price He paid for you and me! “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved” (John 3:16-17 KJV). He loves us more…because no matter how much I love you or anyone else, I wouldn’t even consider sacrificing my child for you, and you wouldn’t give up yours for me.

What about JESUS? He is the son that was sacrificed, and it says, “he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross” (Phil 2:8 KJV). JESUS said, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13 KJV) so you can’t top that love!

Are you ready to trade your “what’s in it for me” kind of love for the love that gives and sacrifices for you? You won’t miss that worldly love after you “taste and see that the Lord is good” for “blessed is the man that trusteth in him” (Psa 34:8 KJV).
