A band of storms passed through the Central US, leaving a huge path of death and destruction. Warnings went out and I am sure people took reasonable precautions. The storms included tornadoes that destroyed an entire town, along with countless other homes and businesses. Even the massive Amazon warehouse became a mass casualty event. It will be a while before the survivors can go on with their lives.
Yes, with such a huge disaster, there will be an outpouring of support. It will be in the news for days and politicians will make sure they are seen helping. Amazon will quickly rebuild their warehouse and take care of the injured employees and the families of those who died on the job. Even the insurance companies will make an extra effort to help their customers.
This is just another news item for most of the country. They are dealing with their own sudden destruction. Whether they lost loved ones to COVID, are suffering the side effects of catching it themselves, lost their job or business due to the shutdown, they are hurting. A more recent problem is people losing their jobs because they won’t take the vaccine. Yes, the destruction came on us suddenly, but when will we be able to get on with our lives?
If your life is dependent on homes, businesses, jobs, possessions, personal freedom, health and even your own physical life, you may not get back to life as you know it. “For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them” (1 Thes 5:3 KJV)! Most of us feel safe in our homes, in a business or at work. Statistically we are a safe nation and shouldn’t fear that something terrible will suddenly happen to us. With our military might, healthcare system and well-trained Police, we have even more reasons to feel safe. There will always be people who flirt with death and destruction and “get what they are asking for” but we are more careful, right?
Those people affected or killed by last night’s storms were careful and followed the rules. Most of the people who contracted COVID were careful, many did what they were told and stayed home, wore the mask, took the vaccine, and still contracted the virus. Our heroic frontliners who we praised last year are losing their jobs because they don’t trust the vaccine. Our Police forces have been defunded, demoralized, and stopped from doing their jobs, so crime is rampant. Do you still feel safe?
You shouldn’t be afraid of these big events, statistically you will die of a heart attack, cancer, or a fall. If that doesn’t get you a traffic accident will do it. What are you saying? You will die and it probably will be suddenly. If you are dependent on the government, military might, the Police or even yourself, you will be disappointed. JESUS said “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth…But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven…For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Mat 6: 19-21 KJV), and “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16 KJV), so you can fear not (Isa 41:10) if you put your trust in Him!
