Not that we didn’t have power before but now we have more power from a reliable source to our new Church building. Heritage Christian Ministries has been holding services in our new building since January 30, this year (2022). Our early services were held without commercial power or water because we had outgrown Pastor Bob and Sister Kathy’s living room and kitchen. GOD miraculously provided us a building and helped us transform the former school classroom into a warm and inviting place to worship. After months of hard work, miraculous provision and overcoming many problems, the building was ready, but we needed a new septic system installed before the power company would issue a permit to connect the power.
We connected the building to a portable generator that gave us lights, powered the camera, and sound system, and even ran some of our heat\air-conditioning units. The roar of the generator became all too familiar. We ran extension cords from Pastor Bob’s house to power the coffee machine and a small electric heater. It wasn’t everything we wanted but we got by.
We continued to depend on Pastor’s home for restrooms because the pandemic emergency measures resulted in a shortage of septic tanks. We were looking at long delays when we miraculously found a contractor who shortened our wait time and installed our septic system. That allowed us to use our Church restrooms. The completed septic system and GOD’s blessings allowed us to finally get our electrical permit!
One of our members donated the materials, so we prepared for our much-anticipated power connection. It seemed to take forever to get the power company to install more poles and run their wires, but they finally completed everything but the meter. As we prayed and anxiously waited, then the man arrived and within minutes we had electrical power! The trusty generator and extension cords which we depended on for months were put away. We no longer needed them because we have more power from a reliable source. Who wouldn’t want that?
What about the power of the HOLY SPIRIT? Even JESUS needed it. “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him” (Acts 10:38). Why? Because He “maketh intercession for us” (Rom 8:26) and “that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost” (Rom 15:13). There’s that “power” thing again.
You ask, I’m saved so why do I need more than that? Because JESUS left you with a lot to do and “ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me” (Acts 1:8). I won’t know what to say when they come against me! JESUS said, “whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost” (Mark 13:11). How will I know I have it? There will be evidence like before “they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance” (Acts 2:4). Do I have to speak in tongues? Yes, if you want more power. You don’t have to be afraid, it’s from a reliable source!
