As Christmas presents accumulate around the tree, we hope the best looking one is ours. If we get our desires, we can only be assured of getting the nicest wrappings. Wrappings are the least valuable part of the present and will be cast aside when the present itself is revealed. The goal should be the hidden treasure that is concealed inside. The value and potential gain from that gift depends on the ability of the giver and their desire to give something precious to us. If the giver wants to show their love by giving something of great value, then our present could truly be a treasure.
People are often judged by the way they look, with little consideration for the value they have inside. Human nature draws us to the best-looking people. We want to be around them and partake in the pleasures we can see. This can lead to shallow relationships that hurt everyone. Hopefully as we get older, we gain wisdom and discover people’s real value is found on the inside. We should look for a deep and meaningful relationship that can only come from spending quality time with the person and getting to know them.
How should we choose our relationship with GOD? Should we go by what we see on the outside? Do we want the trappings of religion? Should we go with the popular selection? Much of what we see is like the wrapping on presents. The only value might be the outer coverings, but we should be looking inside. GOD has the ability and desire to give us the best and has already given us the greatest gift, his son JESUS.
Deciding based on outward appearance may cause us to miss the value that can only be found on the inside. His most precious work will happen in our hearts. We should get to know the LORD by spending quality time with Him. He gave us His son because He wants to have a deep and meaningful relationship with us. Accept JESUS as your Savior and you will have the greatest present from the greatest giver, and that is only the beginning!
