Correction

Over the last few years there has been a dramatic shift in US law. It was reported as a change in public opinion, but I’m not convinced about that one. I think the change was due to a relentless campaign waged by activists and our elected leaders, with the willing cooperation of the media. Opponents cringe in fear of being accused of intolerance or being labeled as bigots. Buying into the “changing public opinion” story, their half-hearted defense has led to a collapse of our moral boundaries.

One consequence of these changes has been unprecedented attacks on the very foundations of our Judeo-Christian heritage. The Church has become the enemy and Christians the villains of our nation. Sin is defended, righteousness is under fire and absolutes are questioned. This accelerating degeneration makes me wonder how long GOD can continue to bless America.

In the Old Testament of the Bible, we see clear examples of GOD blessing the children of Israel until they turned away from Him. A recurring scenario was when the nation turned from GOD, the remaining righteous people came under attack. I used to wonder what the tipping point was between GOD’s merciful restraint and his corrective punishment.

When loving parents correct their children, they try other methods before punishment. They teach them, remind them of the consequences, and warn them as they get closer to punishment. It is important that the children listen, believe, and change their behavior. If we fail to teach, warn, remind, and punish them, we are participating in their destruction. That means correction is part of loving them.

GOD gave us His Word to teach us, JESUS to save us, messengers to remind us, and the HOLY SPIRIT to warn us. Because GOD loves us, He will correct us if we fail to turn away from our path of destruction. GOD loves us so much; He sent His son to die for our sins. If we accept GOD’s forgiveness we won’t be punished. As for the nation, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14). GOD will correct our nation if we don’t turn from our wicked ways, because He loves us.
