Bahala Ka (It’s Up To You)

That’s a phrase I heard a lot in my wife’s Filipino culture. The people were very friendly, eager to please, and the decisions weren’t too serious. After we got married, I didn’t hear it as much from her because the subjects were more serious, and our decisions had consequences.

It wasn’t like that when I came to the LORD. I kept hearing, “It’s up to you” but my decisions have eternal consequences! Even though “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16 KJV), and JESUS “humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross” (Phil 2:8 KJV), the decision to accept or reject JESUS as my LORD and SAVIOR is up to me! How can that be when “the wages of sin is death” (Rom 6:23 KJV)? If I make the wrong decision, I could spend eternity in Hell!

Thankfully I accepted JESUS, and I am saved, but I keep hearing “It’s up to you” when it comes to obedience and believing GOD. Even though I accepted JESUS as my LORD, I still must choose to obey Him. If I choose not to obey, have I really made Him LORD of my life? If I don’t believe (have faith in) His WORD, I won’t get the promises for “without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him” (Heb 11:6 KJV).

Do you want to be saved, live in power and victory, and go to Heaven when You die? Bahala ka (It’s up to you).
