The Warning
In the Old Testament the Watchman’s job was to sound the alarm if he saw the enemy approaching “But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand” (Eze 33:6 KJV). In the New Testament we are called to “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned” (Mark 16:15-16 KJV). We are the modern-day Watchmen and must sound the alarm that “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10 KJV) and “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3 KJV)!
But failing to sound the alarm doesn’t seem to have serious consequences for us? Disobeying GOD, not loving your neighbor as yourself (Mark 12:31), and letting people die without a warning, are very serious consequences. An important part of salvation is acknowledging JESUS as our LORD. In fact, if we refuse to obey GOD, we may not be saved!
