Captives and captors

Seeing a picture of a young girl in tears, standing beside a radical Muslim fighter, I prayed for her courage and protection. The headline told of Christian children being beheaded. I don’t know what happened to that child, but I know she was in a better position than her captor.

The captor seemed to be pleased, with a big smile on his face. He looked to be young and healthy. If the stories are accurate, the army he belongs to is well-trained and their conquests are amazing. With everything seeming to go right for the smiling radical, how could the captured child be in a better position?

If the captor continues as part of a “victorious army” it will be hard to convince him, he is wrong. In his mind, he is successful. Why should he change? He doesn’t realize he is in more danger than the children he is killing. Living on the edge of eternity, he probably won’t live long enough to change his heart and be saved.

As for the captive child, they can only kill her body. Leaving the problems of this world behind, her spirit will go to be with JESUS forever. She is also living on the edge of eternity, but her eternity is something to look forward to.

Yes, I am angry at what they are doing to Christians in Iraq. I pray this evil will stop. These radicals will eventually “get what they deserve,” but we should pray for the protection of the captives and the salvation of their captors. Why? It’s because “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16 KJV) and we didn’t “get what we deserved.”
