There is a celebration going on in San Antonio, Texas this week. It’s an annual festival that began in 1891 to honor the memory of the heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto. The festival has grown over the years and celebrates San Antonio’s rich cultural heritage while boosting the economy and raising funds to meet local needs. It’s another great activity that both visitors and locals can enjoy with the whole family.
Sadly, too much of the celebrating will include alcohol and the troubles that come with it. The “thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy” (John 10:10 KJV) and he knows how to mess up a good thing. After all the celebration has ended, many people will find themselves in trouble, some will be in jail, and a few will be facing eternity because they wanted a drink or two with their celebration. I hope no one died this year because they drank and tried to drive!
There’s been another celebration going on in La Vernia for the last few weeks. There has been a tent revival and people are getting healed, delivered, and saved. Some of the services ran late into the night because the hurting people wouldn’t go home until GOD touched them. How can you include a tent revival in a story entitled “Fiesta?” Apparently, you didn’t attend the revival. When people are bound by spirits of infirmity, depression, anxiety, fear, and doubt and are delivered, that calls for a celebration. A fiesta or festival – by definition, is a religious celebration. What could be more appropriate than celebrating that the HOLY SPIRIT set people free?
As for the people who accepted JESUS CHRIST as their LORD and SAVIOR, “joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance” (Luke 15:7 KJV) and “Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth” (Luke 15:10 KJV). The angels are having a fiesta over those sinners that came and are now saved!
The Good News is the celebration doesn’t have to end! “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved” (John 3:16-17 KJV) and all that became possible when JESUS died on the cross and rose from the grave. JESUS said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6 KJV) so you can join the celebration that will go on for all eternity!
