I’m normally the first to get up in our house and I fix breakfast. My wife has gotten used to me spoiling her and will wait, even ask when I am going to have breakfast ready if I seem to be running behind. Something she doesn’t know, I will give the best piece of fruit, or the crispiest English muffin even though she doesn’t ask. I love my wife and I want her to have the best of whatever I have to offer.
I wasn’t always like that. When I was a child, I felt I had to compete with my brothers for the best or the biggest when it came to food. There wasn’t always enough of the food we wanted in our house, so when we saw the chance to get a little more, or the best, we took it. What has changed? At some point, the love GOD showed me began to sink in.
As Sister Moore used to say, “If you are going to give a gift, give them the best” and that stuck with me. My wife understood it to mean it had to be new, which often meant we missed a chance to bless someone. I saw it as “in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. began to sink in. in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others” (Phil 2:3-4 KJV). It isn’t all about me, but so I could show His love to others.
That’s how GOD works. He “so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16 KJV). He gave His best, not because we deserved it but, “God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom 5:8 KJV).
JESUS loved us so much He died that we might live with Him forever! “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13 KJV). JESUS knew that only His precious blood would wash away our sins, so He laid down His life to give us the best! Won’t you share the Good News that this gift is for all who will believe?
