Going Back For More

After moving into our house, we discovered we have a new neighbor.  A little gray squirrel runs across the top edge of our wooden fence to reach a pecan tree in another yard and then returns the same way with a single nut in his mouth. A squirrel eating a nut isn’t that unusual, but this one wasn’t eating them.  He was saving up nuts for the coming winter.  He was very diligent and made that trip many times a day.  I’m sure he could have eaten his fill in one trip, but he was thinking ahead.  Once his storage was full, he could have slacked off until his supply ran out, but he was wisely getting nuts while the supply lasts.

I was thinking we should be as diligent as that squirrel in seeking the Lord.  Our diligence won’t save us, but we should keep our storehouse full. We don’t know what the future holds, but we should be full of the Word, full of the Spirit and ready for whatever God has for us. We can’t just fill up at Church on Sunday and let our supply drain away through the week.  We have to keep going back for more.

Won’t the supply always be there?  Yes, but you may not be able to get to it. Even in our “Christian” nation restrictions are increasing on Christian activities, but they can’t restrict what you have in your heart. “Your word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against thee”(Psalms 119:11 KJV).

You may not have time to get to the supply.  During an emergency, you may only have what is stored up in your heart.  “ A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh” (Luke 6:45 KJV).

Your supply isn’t meant for you alone.  You need to “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season” (2 Tim 4:2 KJV).  Your stored up supply will strengthen you and might lead someone else to Jesus when you share it.  Don’t let your supply run out! Keep going back for more!
