Gone Fishing

When JESUS called Peter and Andrew, they were fishing, and “he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Mat 4:19 KJV). They left their old job to follow JESUS, whom they believed to be the SON OF GOD. After following and being taught by JESUS how to fish for men, they were told to do what they had learned.

After witnessing the death, burial, and resurrection of JESUS, you would think they would obey. When JESUS was no longer with the Disciples, “Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing…Then Jesus saith unto them…Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes” (John 21:3, 5 – 6 KJV). Once again, JESUS showed them, they could do more by following Him than by going their own way.

There was nothing wrong with the disciples going fishing, but JESUS had called them to catch men! Instead of feeding themselves and others with natural food that might preserve their life, He told them to “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned” (Mark 16:15-16 KJV). So, what about you, will you follow your way and catch fish or obey JESUS and catch men?
