In A Relationship

I have noticed more people on Facebook identify their relationship status as “In a relationship.” What does that mean?  I don’t really like that vague, uncommitted description.  I am “in a relationship” with everyone I come in contact with.  The mailman delivers my letters and packages, our Pastor is someone I admire and respect, and my daughter and I have a close relationship.  I have a different relationship with each of them, but I wouldn’t choose that label to describe any of them.

Since “In a Relationship” is in a list of selections like “Single, married, engaged, and it’s complicated” it must have romantic overtones.  Does that sound “romantic” to you?  Whatever happened to terms like “going steady, I have a girlfriend/boyfriend, and I am spoken for?”  I know someone who uses that label, is unmarried and expecting a baby.  Does the term imply an intimate relationship?  If you go that far and you are only “in a relationship” maybe you should stick with “it’s complicated” or don’t call it anything.

I am in a relationship, but it isn’t vague or uncommitted.  I am in a personal relationship with GOD Almighty!   He loves me! Before I even knew or cared about Him, “God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16 NIV).  I believed and I am saved!  Jesus was so committed to our relationship He died to take away my sins.  I am committed and won’t deny my love for Him, and He won’t deny me before His Father in Heaven.  Is your relationship that good?  It can be, because “God so loved” you too.
