I’m recovering from a recent minor surgery. I try to be careful and follow the Doctor’s orders so I can get past the pain and return to normal activities. Sometimes I forget, but the searing pain from my wound reminds me that I still have a long way to go. I must move slowly, take my medicine, and protect the affected area or suffer the consequences. What could be worse than surgery? Having another surgery or getting a life-threatening infection, with a longer and more painful recovery!
That’s a lot like the pain and suffering from sin. Yes, you can be forgiven, but you must be careful to follow GOD’s guidance, so you don’t fall back into sin. You will suffer the consequences of your sin! Why are there consequences if I’ve been forgiven by GOD? JESUS’s death on the cross will keep you from going to hell but you may still have to pay for your sins in this world. That’s yet another reason to walk in obedience once you have been saved! Paul said “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication…hatred…they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God (Gal 5:19 – 21 KJV). So, you can lose your salvation if you don’t follow JESUS! Paul also said “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?” (Rom 6:1-2 KJV). There are consequences when you give place to the devil! JESUS said, “If ye love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15 KJV). Why should we, because sin hurts!
