Recently there have been a new set of “leaders” in the news. They are young, idealistic and have a large number of followers. They fearlessly challenge their own party leaders and in spite of a number of costly missteps and embarrassing blunders, they are wildly popular. Who are these youthful firebrands, who have taken over their party and the news? They are newly elected Representatives to the United States Congress. Armed with radical ideas and enthusiastic supporters, they won’t be sidelined by their seasoned colleagues. The media can’t get enough of their mass appeal and hasn’t challenged their outlandish ideas.
The main problem with these new leaders is where they are leading our country to. They are determined to change us from the most successful free-market economy in the world to a disastrous socialist model, with a crippling emphasis on climate change. If that isn’t enough, they aim to break our alliance with Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East.
You may think they won’t succeed, but these radicals have a willing bunch of anti-establishment and anti-Trump supporters who want the promised “free” benefits. They don’t worry that all that free stuff will wreck our economy and “wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat” (Mat 7:13 KJV). Having been fed a steady diet of anti-Semitic rhetoric in college, they are willing supporters of anti-Israel policies. The Bible plainly tells us to be careful who we follow “if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch” (Mat 15:14 KJV).
So what kind of leaders should we follow? The type of leaders that say “Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ” (1 Cor 11:1 KJV). Brother David Sanchez is that kind of leader. This multi-talented preacher, teacher, singer and musician serves wherever he is needed. He preaches from the Bible and uses his own life as a testimony to GOD’s grace, mercy and power. A hard working and successful family man, this humble servant gives all the glory to GOD, where it belongs. That is the kind of leader we should follow.
Another leader we should follow is Brother Bob Middleton. A humble, yet capable, man of GOD, Brother Bob traded material wealth to follow CHRIST. He is the principle of our small Christian school and our Church youth leader. He also heads a basketball ministry, where he sacrifices his middle aged body to reach much younger players. Is he perfect? No way, but his imperfections make him a leader GOD can use. He acknowledges his own dependence on JESUS CHRIST and that puts the glory where it should be.
Where are these “leaders” leading us to? They are leading us to GOD, who “so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16 KJV). After they were saved and received the power of the HOLY GHOST, they became witnesses “in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth” (Acts 1:8 KJV), or their town, county and as far as they can reach. Those are the kind of leaders we should follow and become ourselves.
