After a tragic school shooting in Florida, gun-control supporters have come out in force. They even have students demanding action. Would their solution have stopped the killer, who was known to Police and reported to the FBI? The troubled young man was a known problem, but our broken system didn’t have the solution.
I live in a quiet and relatively safe community, but my neighbor died in a shootout with a burglar in his own home. He managed to shoot his killer, who left his home but didn’t get far because of his wounds. If my neighbor had no gun, the burglar may have harmed his wife and children. The young addict would still be on the street, emboldened by his success.
I attend church within miles of the site of last year’s mass Church shooting. Legal gun owners kept that shooting from being worse. That gunman was able to buy his gun because of a government failure to follow existing laws. Our system has room for improvement, but don’t tell me, or my neighbor’s widow, taking our guns is the solution.
Alcohol abuse has ruined countless lives, broken families and left a trail of misery, with no end in sight. Drinking is an accepted way to celebrate and relax, as the human toll continues to climb. Illegal drugs were added to mixture and our government spent a fortune fighting the war on drugs. Did they win? No, they retreated and have become drug pushers so they can fix budget problems with their ill-gotten gain. Surely you know that isn’t the solution.
A recent wave of sexual assault and harassment claims has brought to light a dark problem. Powerful people abused their positions to get what they want. Victims tolerated mistreatment, thinking you have to play the game to get ahead. Casual sex is promoted as the norm these days, while purity and restraint are mocked. The popular culture that lowered our moral bar doesn’t know how to fix the problem. Legal action will punish some, but that is not the solution.
Does that mean there are no solutions? Definitely not! Whenever you have a problem, the solution is more JESUS! Expel Satan from school because he comes “to steal, and to kill, and to destroy” (John 10:10 KJV). If you let Satan have our children, they will steal, kill and destroy! Let JESUS back in school and “Train up a child in the way he should go” (Prov 22:6 KJV). Fill our kids with love and they won’t hate you or each other.
If you want to get high, “be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit” (Eph 5:18 KJV). That is worth celebrating, with no bad side effects!
The solution to sexual problems is more love. JESUS showed us how to love by sacrificing Himself for us. Then He commanded us to “love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another” (John 13:34 KJV). Love isn’t about feeding your selfish desires. “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16 KJV)and that is the solution!
