The Fog

The other morning I looked outside and couldn’t see a thing. To be more precise, all I could see was a thick blanket of fog that kept me from clearly seeing anything else. It was still dark and I thought visibility would improve in the light of day. The sun came up, but it didn’t help at all. In fact, it seemed to make things worse. I didn’t have to go out, so it was a minor distraction to me. My daughter can stay home since my grandchildren are off from school. My son-in-law is a professional driver and should be alright if the other drivers behave.

Driving in thick fog means you have to slow down and proceed carefully, while intently looking for signs of what may be ahead. Unfortunately the unknown factor when driving in fog is other drivers. No matter how careful you are and how slow you drive, another driver may not be as cautious and hit you. They don’t mean to, but they can’t see very far ahead and may not be able to avoid a collision. A false sense of security might cause drivers to speed up and can lead to disaster. Another factor, the density of the fog can quickly change and make visibility better or worse. The very nature of fog makes you to think you can see farther than you really can. The unexpected appearance of lights or a vehicle can result in a startled driver overreacting and getting into or causing an accident.

That is why they use terms like the “fog of war” or “my mind was in a fog” meaning things aren’t clear or there is an element of confusion. That can be a minor nuisance or lead to a major catastrophe if people react badly to their unclear vision. That is why you should strive to see clearly or at least slow down and proceed with caution until you have a clear view.
There is another fog that is more common and much more deadly. That’s the fog of confusion when it comes to the truth. I have seen that fog and the problems it causes, so I slow down and proceed with caution. Why? Confusion can make you doubt the truth and believe a lie. You can overcome confusion with the truth of the Bible and the help of the HOLY SPIRIT. JESUS said “ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32 KJV).

Even if you know the truth, others may be still in the fog of confusion and they may collide with you. Sadly, many people don’t know the truth of GOD’s WORD and have believed a lie. That has caused confusion and doubt since the Garden of Eden, and still does. That is one of the reasons we have so many Christian religions. Two things you should be aware of are “God is not the author of confusion” (1 Cor 14:33 KJV) and “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy” (John 10:10 KJV). Much of the confusion in this world comes from “the thief” and he uses the fog to sew confusion and doubt.

GOD does not want you to stay in the fog of confusion. Paul said, “be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Rom 12:2 KJV). Do I have to study all the Bible? Yes, but start with the greatest part according to JESUS, “love the Lord thy God with all” and “love thy neighbor as thyself” (Mat 22:37-38 ) and the greatest truth, “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
