What a Waste!

I can’t help but watch the Impeachment Hearings going on in the U.S. House of Representatives. Not because it’s interesting, but it’s on all the television news channels. Despite being told it’s a bad idea by their leaders, they pressed forward with impeachment and the news media is eating it up. The hearings monopolize the news, with live testimonies and political commentary. They take weak testimony and come up with dramatic explanations of the terrible damage it has done to our nation.

So what “high crime or misdemeanor” did the President commit to warrant this all-consuming effort to unseat him? They said he withheld military aid from our ally, to pressure them into investigating corruption involving our former Vice-President’s son. The real reason is, they didn’t like the results of the last election and want to win the next one. What! You mean they paralyzed our government, spent millions of dollars, held up trade deals, put off legislation on gun-control, lowering drug prices, and immigration reform for that? What a waste!

With such a high cost to our nation, surely they will oust the President? Not likely. The military aid went to our ally, no investigation into the Vice-President’s son took place and there has been no evidence real crimes were committed. The public is losing interest and the President is gaining ground and may be reelected. Besides that, after the one-sided hearings in the House, the Senate will be more favorable and won’t impeach the President. That means this debacle has all been for nothing! Worse than that, it divided our country, damaged our prestige, and spent money we don’t have. What a waste!

This whole thing reminds me of what “Christian religions” are doing for the people of this world. We were entrusted with the Great Commission, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen” (Mat 28:19 – 20 KJV) but what are we doing? Not much, unless you count the partisan bickering that protects doctrinal positions rather than saving souls. Was the commission faulty? No, GOD is perfect (Mat 5:48). Did the LORD fail on His part (I speak as a fool)? “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise” (2 Pet 3:9 KJV).

The problem is with us! As 150,000 souls a day go into eternity and most are lost, we play Church and fight each other instead of the one who comes “to steal, and to kill, and to destroy” (John 10:10 KJV). What a waste! We must REPENT! “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” (2 Chron 7:14 KJV). If we begin to love GOD with our all and love our neighbor as ourselves (Luke 10:27) maybe we can stop wasting time and get back to pointing the lost to JESUS!
