I’m always amazed at the price people pay for works of art. Someone paid $450 million dollars for a painting by Leonardo Da Vinci in 2017. How can one painting, even by such a famous artist, be worth that much? I would never pay that price, but it must be worth that much to someone.
Diamonds are an even bigger mystery to me because they are so small, but people pay crazy prices for them. Someone paid $400 million dollars for the Cullinan diamond and the Kohinoor diamond is called priceless, because money can’t buy it. I saw the Hope diamond on display at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC, but I only looked at it briefly because of its $250 million dollar price tag and the fame it carries. I’m sure the size and beauty of these diamonds make them unique, but why are they worth so much? They are worth the price someone is willing to pay to get them!
JESUS said, “the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it” (Mat 13:45-46 KJV). That comparison shows the value JESUS places on the kingdom of heaven. If we fully understood that we would be willing to give everything we have to go, but it wouldn’t be enough. The admission price is priceless because it is more than we could ever pay!
Thankfully for us the price has been paid! “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16 KJV). We deserve hell but “God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom 5:8 KJV) so we can accept Him and go to heaven.
I’m not worth that price! That is just too much for a wretch like me! You are not worthy but “the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe…Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus” (Rom 3:22 and 24 KJV) makes you worthy! Look at the price He paid for you! That price means you are precious in GOD’s sight!
